FAQs

Meg has an uncanny ability to dial down to the root causes of what’s keeping students from reaching their potential and knows how to explicitly coach students through their ‘stuckness’ to progress toward mastery.
Simultaneously, she pays attention to their hearts and humanity. She is mindful that students need to build confidence as much as autonomy.

    • Calibrate Academic Coaching’s two prong approach incorporates executive functioning skill development (such as time management, task initiation and prioritization, and task completion/ submission) as well as academic coaching strategies for powerful learning (homework vs. studying, the study cycle, reading strategies, metacognition of study/work strategies, powerful notetaking, chunking, interleaving, spaced retrieval, to name a few) in order to leverage and optimize a student’s full potential.

    • Conversely, tutoring is subject specific support. As a former English teacher, Meg can and often does wrap reading and writing support into coaching sessions, although the focus of coaching sessions is on the executive functioning tools and / or academic strategies applicable to ALL academic coursework.

    1. Explore the website and if you’d like to know more, complete the contact form.

    2. Once we connect, we’ll make an appointment for a FREE 45 min Calibrate Consultation.

    3. The Calibrate Consultion is an opportunity to hear your and your student’s frustrations and goals, and for both parent and student to ask questions and learn more about academic coaching, review Calibrate’s contract, packages and availability / scheduling, as well as to determine overall fit.

    4. Then, think about it for 24 hours. If after 24 hrs, both parent and student agree that Calibrate Academic Coaching with Meg Chamberlin is the right fit, we will then proceed with the contract, scheduling and payment.

    5. Weekly sessions begin once signed contracts and payment has been received.

    • If you live in Boulder County, Calibrate Academic Coaching strongly suggests in person, 1:1 coaching sessions.  We can meet at the library, a coffee shop, or other quiet work space. The Boulder Public Library has wonderful study rooms available. We will determine your preferred public meeting location when arranging your weekly session, and we'll keep that location consistent throughout our time together.

    • Calibrate offers virtual coaching sessions via Google Meet or Zoom. If you live outside of Boulder County, are traveling, sick, or are concerned about bad weather, there’s no need to miss a session or worry that Calibrate can’t accommodate you, especially if you live out of state. Meg Chamberlin has virtually coached students in different states and time zones as well as in person with equal efficacy and results.

    • Please note that Calibrate does not offer in-person coaching in the student's home.

    • Check-in–how are you doing this week, personally and academically?

    • Week in review–how did it go this week?  Let’s look at how/ when you tried last week’s EF skill / academic strategy–what worked? Additionally, we’ll look at gradebooks to celebrate all of your wins and  assess where you struggled so we can talk it through and calibrate the skill / strategy to make it as accessible as possible.

    • Ready to try this week’s executive functioning (EF) tool / academic strategy? We’ll then move on to a mini-lesson with the week’s EF tool / academic strategy, which is typically directly applicable to the student’s work for the week.

    • Plan of attack time–calendaring and prioritizing this week’s work / tonight’s assignments, trying this week’s tool / strategy with a current assignment.

    • Wrap up and this week’s agreements–what is your coaching goal for the week ahead?

    • Every student is unique and experiences results at their own pace.  A student’s willingness to engage in coaching as well as the consistency coaching requires are two foundational determinants of how quickly a student begins to experience success.

    • That said, Calibrate Academic Coaching celebrates even the smallest wins / gains with each student, as most students need to be oriented to the incremental steps they are taking to transform their habits, develop a toolbox of skills and strategies, and reform their mindset and self perception over time.

    • Speaking of time–meaningful change takes time, buy-in and consistency, which is why academic coaching requires weekly sessions throughout the entirety of a semester, preferably a full academic year.

    • It's not uncommon for students to experience bumps in their academic coaching journey. They are re-wiring neural pathways, attempting and internalizing new tools and strategies that require repetition over time to take root.

    • Don't be deterred or discouraged! Every experience and attempt, every result is incredibly valuable information to help us calibrate and fine tune our work together.

    • Calibrate Academic Coaching offers semester (fall, spring) or annual (10 month) coaching packages that align with your student's school year.

    • Semester and annual packages include additional supports that supplement the weekly session. Please visit the "2024-25 Coaching Packages" page for details!
